This card is for the Stamping 411 Sketch Challenge for this week. I admit that it is a bit on the simple side . . . but that makes it easy to recreate, right? I used our In Colors Bermuda Bay and Crushed Curry to make this card. My white gel pen puts a nice accent on the flowers, but my favorite accent on this card is the Summer Sun Corduroy button embellishment. I can’t stand to see a “naked” button hole so I always use linen thread or in this case faux Bermuda Bay thread to dress it up. You make faux thread by slicing off just a sliver of coordinating paper and then threading it though the button. If you break the fibers down a bit before running it though the button, you will get enough flex going that you can actually tie the “thread” once over without it breaking off.
Here are the supplies to create this card:

This next card is my “WOW” card. I really, really love how it turned out. I’ve been collecting the Extreme stamps since we can get them for free during Sale-a-bration with a $50 order and now I have the Extreme Elements stamp set in my collection, too. So, I was thrilled to see the Stamping 411 Color Challenge because it was manly and rugged and just perfect for what I had in mind.
This card uses a LOT of elements, stamp sets, colors, and an awesome technique called Shadow Dancing. I’ll do my best to walk you through what I did. First, I went to my scrap box and picked out some cool elements . . . like the negative image from the Swirly Strip Die, the oval from the Ovals die, the Kraft half tag from the Lots of Tags Sizzlits pack, and the 1 3/4″ Old Olive Circle Punch. I should really show you how I organize my punch and die-cut scraps. They come in so handy . . . I didn’t even have to get my Big Shot out for this card!
I used More Mustard to make the base of my card. I stamped various images on it from the Extreme Elements stamp set and then I used a sponge to put tone on tone color on the edges. I also took my More Mustard pad and just rubbed it directly to the paper to give it even more color. My next step was to stamp a strip of Close to Cocoa paper with the Woodgrain background stamp. Again I sponged the edges up and use the stamp pad directly on the paper to distress it. Then I stamped the dots from Extreme Elements onto my Old Olive Swirly strip. I skipped the sponging on this one but went heavy on the direct to paper technique. (That’s ink pad to paper.) I stamped the same dot image on my Old Olive Circle and sponged the edges. My half-piece tag is distressed with the Close to Cocoa ink pad and I used a sponge to add a bit of Not Quite Navy color to the edges. The sentiment is from Picture This, a level one hostess set in our Occasions Mini catalog.
Now, on to the oval. The technique I used to make the Skate Boarder look 3-D is called Shadow Dancing. First, I stamped the Skate Boarder in Whisper White Craft Ink. I let that dry thoroughly and then I stamped it again, but offset the image just a bit with Not Quite Navy ink. I sponged the edges and adhered it with Stamin’ Dimensionals.
The inside of the card is decorated with the Big Splash from the Extreme Elements set. Again . . . tone on tone stamping. And, off to the left, I have another strip from the Swirly die using the negative image. Love that look!
Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today!! I appreciate you so much and hope I gave you an idea that you can use!
